"Dependent" Visa

"Dependent" visa is categorized in Tier IV of Group I defined in Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act ("ICRRA", hereafter). 

I. Granted Activities 

activities of daily lives as supported spouses, sons or daughters of persons who stays in Japan with eligible other than "Diplomat", "Public Business", "Short Term Stay", "Trainee", "Dependent", "Designated Activities", "Permanent Resident", "Spouse or Child of Japanese National", "Spouse or Child of Permanent Resident” or "Long Term Resident"

II. Granted Period of Stay 

5 years, 4 years and 3 months, 4 years, 3 years and 3 months, 3 years, 2 years and 3 months, 2 years, 1 years and 3 months, 1 year, 6 months or 3 months

III. Conditions to be Permitted 

A. Applied activities are not false. 

B. Applied activities coincide with activities defined for each visa in ICRRA.

It is also required to meet the followings, or so called " Criteria of Permits for Landing" as "Dependent" is categorized in Tier IV of Group II:

A. The applicant should stay under supports from a foreigner staying in Japan with visa status of "Professor", "Artist", "Religious Activities", "Journalist", "High Skilled Professional", "Business Manager", "Lawyer and Accountant", Medical Care", "Researcher", "Instructor", "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services", "Intra-company Transferee", "Nursing Care", "Entertainer", "Skilled Labor", "Specified Skilled Worker (ii)", "Cultural Activities" or "Student", provided that the supporter should study in a university, a college or the same grade educational institution, or in a special course of a vocational school, in a preparational educational institution for entering a university or a college in Japan after twelve years educational experiences in overseas, in a technical college course or in a night time graduate school, if the supporter is under a visa status of "Student". 

IV. Documents Required to Apply for a Certificate of Eligibility or Change of Visa

A. a document which certifies the relation between the applicant and its supporter

B. a copy of a residence card or a passport of the supporter

C. a document which certifies the occupation and incomes of the supporter

V. Documents Required to Apply for Extension of Visa

A. a document which certifies the relation between the applicant and the supporter

B. a copy of a residence card or a passport of the applicant

C. certificates of the occupation and incomes of the supporter
